Current Musical Obsessions

We all get them – those bits of music that we can’t get out of our heads or stop listening to on repeat. So we figured it was time to ask the band what theirs are. Here’s Steve and Andy for starters:

Andy:

Ashley McBryde’s “Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega”. For the simple reason that it is a real life story that resonates. We’ve all had ‘worst day kinda nights’ and the uplifting message of ‘making the best of the worst day kinda night’ is what we all want to do when times get rough. I also love the elegant simplicity of the arrangement and the space within it. It’s not overproduced or overcluttered and it also doesn’t attempt to be cool and hip by adding loads of hip hop or R&B beats. It lets the story do the talking backed up by acoustic and electric guitars – my kinda country sound.”

Steve:

‘The Butterfly’ from the album ‘Doors at eight’ by Peter Knight’s Gigspanner. Why? Peter is an inspirational violin player and musician and this track demonstrates his mastery of the instrument. The late Sir Terry Pratchett once said that Peter could spin the world on the tip of his bow – and this track, recorded live, demonstrates just that. Rich tones, perfect intonation and a beauty that just moves everything within you. Peter has been my teacher in recent years through his masterclasses and is the reason I fell back in love with the instrument. And our common love of traditional music is why you’ll often hear folk, not country, when I sound check with Americana!”
